Hollow round bar/pipe weight, area and volume calculator

What is hollow round bar/pipe weight, area and volume calculator?

We are using hollow round bars like MS steel pipe, copper pipe, aluminum pipe etc. at construction sites. Hollow Round Bar/pipe weight, area and volume Calculator can calculate unit weight and total weight. And this calculator can also calculate the unit and total cross sectional area and volume of the pipe. The area of the pipe is generally required in design calculations.

Note-Take unit same in all input field
Eg.- Suppose dia of bar, thickness of pipe and length of bar in meter and density of material in kg/cubic meter then result in unit weight is kg/m and total weight in kg and unit/total cross sectional area in square meter and total volume (material quantity) in cubic meter.

Unit conversion multiple/divisor-
For length- 1m =100cm(1cm=0.01m) =1000mm(1mm=0.001m) =39.37inch(1inch=2.54cm=25.4mm=0.0254m) =3.2808feet(1foot=12inch=0.3048m) =1.0936yards(1yard=3feet=36inch)
For area- 1 square meter =10,000 square cm =10,00,000 square mm =1,550.0031 square inch =10.76391 square feet =1.19596 square yard
For volume- 1 cubic meter =10,00,000 cubic cm =1,00,00,00,000 cubic mm =61,023.744094732 cubic inch =35.314666 cubic feet =1.3079506 cubic yard =1,000 litre
For weight- 1kg =9.81N(1kgf=9.81N) =0.00981KN(1KN=1000N) =0.001tonnes(1tonne=1000kg=9.81KN) =0.01quintal(1quintal=100kg)

Brief description of hollow round bar/pipe weight, area and volume calculator input fields:

Dia of pipe (outer):

Pipe diameter means the outer diameter of the pipe. In this field we will input the outer diameter of the pipe in any units. But if you take the diameter of the pipe unit in meters then all the other input fields should be in meters.

Thickness of pipe:

Thickness of the pipe means pipe wall thickness or outer diameter of pipe minus inner diameter of pipe is equal to 2*thickness of pipe. Thickness of pipe unit should be same as dia of pipe unit.

Density of material:

Density of material= weight of material/volume of material.

In this input field we need to input the density of the material in the unit ‘Diameter of Bar’.

Some material density is written below:

Mild steel= 7850 kg/m3

Aluminium cast= 2580-2700 kg/m3 (Generally in aluminium round bar calculation taken 2700 kg/m3)

Copper cast= 8790-8940 kg/m3 (Generally in copper round bar calculation taken 8900 kg/m3)

Plain cement concrete= 2300 kg/m3

Reinforced cement concrete= 2400-2500 kg/m3 (for 2% steel), 2580-2700 kg/m3 (for 5% steel)

Length of pipe:

In the length of pipe input field 1 pipe length known as length of pipe. Length of pipe unit should be same as dia of pipe unit.

No. of pipe:

In the input field of No. of pipe input total no. of pipe with one cutting length.

Example:

40NB light duty MS pipe contains 100 pieces. And the length of a pipe is 6 meters. Calculate the total weight and cross section area of the pipe bundle, also calculate the unit weight and cross section area. Take density of steel 7850kg/m3.

Solution:

Dia of pipe (outer)= 48 mm

Dia of pipe in meter= 0.048m

Thickness of pipe= 0.0023m

Length of pipe= 6 meter

No. of pipe= 100

Density of material (steel)= 7850 kg/m3

Unit weight-

Unit weight of 40NB MS pipe= volume of 1 meter length of pipe*density of steel bar

Unit weight of 40NB MS pipe= 3.142*0.048*0.048*0.25*1.0*7850 – 3.142*(0.048-2*0.0023)*(0.048-2*0.0023)*0.25*1.0*7850

Unit weight of 40NB MS pipe= 14.2068672 – 11.61436058

Unit weight of 40NB MS pipe=2.59250kg/m

Total weight-

Total weight of MS pipe bundle= Unit weight of pipe*Length of pipe*no of pipe

Total weight of MS pipe bundle= 2.592506617*6*100

Total weight of MS pipe bundle= 1555.50397kg

Unit cross section area-

Unit cross section area of MS pipe= outer area of pipe – inner area of pipe

Unit cross section area of MS pipe= 3.142*0.048*0.048*0.25 – 3.142*(0.048-2*0.0023)*(0.048-2*0.0023)*0.25

Unit cross section area of MS pipe= 0.001809792 – 0.00147953638

Unit cross section area of MS pipe= 0.00033025562m2

Total cross section area-

Total cross section area of MS pipe = Area of one pipe (Unit cross section area)*No of pipe

Total cross section area of MS pipe= 0.00033025562*100

Total cross section area of MS pipe= 0.033025562m2

Total volume (material quantity)-

Total volume (material quantity) of MS pipe= unit cross section area of pipe*no of pipe*length of pipe

Total volume (material quantity) of MS pipe= total cross section area of pie*length of pipe

Total volume (material quantity) of MS pipe= 0.033025562*6

Total volume (material quantity) of MS pipe= 0.198153372m3
